The short version: Vox5000 does not store your audio on any server. Solo recordings stay entirely on your device. In interview rooms, audio transfers directly between participant browsers — peer to peer. Vox5000 never sees your audio.
Vox5000 (vox5000.com) is a free browser-based audio recording tool built for radio presenters, journalists, podcasters and voice over artists. The service is operated from South Africa and is subject to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Your audio is recorded entirely within your browser on your own device. No audio data is sent to any server at any point. When you click download, the file goes directly from your browser to your computer. Vox5000 never receives, sees, or stores your audio.
Each participant records audio locally on their own device. When the host stops recording, guest audio is transferred directly from each guest's browser to the host's browser using peer-to-peer technology (WebRTC). This transfer does not pass through Vox5000's servers. Vox5000 does not receive, store, or process any audio from interview sessions.
The host receives the audio files directly in their browser and downloads them to their device. Guest audio does not go to the cloud unless the host subsequently uploads it themselves.
When a participant joins an interview room, the following information is collected and stored locally in the host's browser session only:
This data is not sent to Vox5000's servers. It is stored only in the host's browser session and is downloaded by the host as a local text file when the session ends. The host is responsible for retaining and protecting this consent record in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Vox5000 does not receive, store, or have access to consent logs.
When your browser loads vox5000.com, standard web server access logs are created. These may include your IP address, browser type, referring page and pages visited. These logs are retained for no more than 30 days and are used only for security and performance monitoring. This is standard behaviour for any website.
Vox5000 does not use tracking cookies. We may use basic privacy-respecting analytics that do not identify individuals. We will update this policy to name any analytics tool we add.
Vox5000 may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other sites. You can opt out at Google's ad settings. Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Vox5000 loads fonts from Google Fonts and uses PeerJS (via unpkg.com CDN) for WebRTC signalling in interview rooms. These services may log your IP address as a standard part of serving files. The PeerJS signalling server facilitates the initial connection between participants but does not receive or store any audio.
As a South African operator, we are subject to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Because Vox5000 does not store personal information beyond standard server logs, there is in practice very little personal information for us to hold. If you believe we hold personal information about you and wish to request access, correction, or deletion, contact us at the address below.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct or erase personal data we hold. Contact us if you have questions.
Vox5000 is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Vox5000 after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
